Check the release notes before upgrading. Read http://www.de.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/release-notes/ch-upgrading.en.html#s-minimal_upgrade and use 4.5.4.1 or 4.5.4.2, whichever applies to your situation. Does this work ok?
