I do the sync so I can tell when the drive can be removed.  When I use
the
"safely remove" option from the konq media manager without sync-ing
first, the umount times out and gives the "cannot remove" message.
Once a sync completes, I know that a "safely remove" will work.

I'm fine for myself the way things are, but I have to be able to show
my
wife what to do, and she's pretty well trained to use konq...
