Just one idea:
to download all messages of December 2007:
wget -r -l 1 http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2007/12
Then use a browser to open
~/lists.debian.org/debian-user/2007/12/index.html.
And get the other months the same way. July 1995 is the first one.
