Not sure what you mean by 'no install media' AFAIK, you have to have one of the several modes of install media to proceed. 1. netintall iso: has base system, but needs a repository for the rest of the packages. Minimal system but can stand alone. 2. businesscard iso, has only enough to boot the system and set up the network and configure apt. Needs a mirror or package repo or you can't proceed. 3. Cd's and DVD's with a full desktop environment . All the install media have 'rescue' mode included.
