A ps2 trackball. I don't run KDE or Gnome and am mainly a console user. As I pointed out I know nothing about KDE/Gnome as such and never looked into what is required for the mouse in them. I've always used gpm and didn't realize that KDE/Gnome don't. :-( Old habits die hard. I guess I should not try to help anyone who does so that I don't make their problems worse.
