It doesn't.  But your existing session might have scribbled over something.

I'd suggest moving these directories to a "holding pen" and then restart:
~/.gnome2
~/.config/gnome-session/
~/.config/autostart/
~/.config/compiz/
~/.config/dconf/
~/.config/
