I recently had a conversation with a maintainer of xserver-xorg-video- nouveau: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=593784 and was able to workaround the problem. S/he says there is no solution found so far. But, I'm no expert and I don't know even whether the xserver-xorg-video-nouveau package was the right one to file the report against.
