Increase your swap to 4GB -- even if you plan never to swap. The space will be available to act as backing store for tmpfs.

I *think* the algorithm for setting the size of tmpfs is one half of RAM + SWAP. Hence the 4GB. If that doesn't work, you can set the size explicitly in /etc/fstab.
