And a partitioned RAID is
(a) a RAID drive that has partitions on it? or
(b) a RAID that combines paririnos instead of complete disk drives as its
physical media?

You can set up RAID on a set of physical disks, or as a set of
partitions. The former will boot easily with Squeeze, the latter is
problematic. It can be done, but not from the initial install. You
need a recent GRUB. And an up-to-date machine configuration, which
should be no problem (refer to Shane Johnson's posts).
