The problem is that you store to a file system that is broken the same way as the hardware clock, i.e. the MSDOS or VFAT file system that has no way to indicate what timezone the file time stamps should be interpreted in. If you access the vfat file system on your floppy/USB stick using mtools, you can run the mtools commands in the appropriate TZ environment. mcopy -m from vfat to linux file system (ext2/3/4,xfs,btrfs,...) will create the destination file with the correct POSIX time stamp. urs -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
