Typically an application uses storage _via_ filesystem operations; opening a file, reading from it, writing to it and etc.
Is there any instance where an application works with a partition directly? For a hypothetical example, a database application might create and use a file system in a storage volume without involvement of the OS. Does any such thing exist in practical use? Thanks, ...
