I have also installed debian 6.0.7 on a Dell Poweredge 1800.
I did try this because this is different hardware.
After the clean install
i did an apt-get xrdp
made a connection with rdesktop from an XP-host
and made a connection with vnc from the XP-host
both worked fine
So i think its something between hard and software on the acer aspire 7250
