You could check if Skype is using pulseaudio. If so, you could try alsa.

Dear List -
The sound on Skype (sid) is impossible!! It is so chopped up that it is impossible to make a call. The sound recorder and audio streams [YouTube, video on Wall Street Journal] work perfectly.
Any suggestions?
TIA
Ethan

Vivek -

Installed ALSA -

http://linuxg.net/how-to-properly-replace-pulseaudio-with-alsa-on-crunchbag-linux-and-debian-squeeze/

Works. Wonderful!!

How do I get Linux to recognize ALSA. As far as Linux is concerned, my sound driver is 'default'.

TIA

Ethan
