NVIDIA drivers requires binary kernel module. You have two options to install this module: 1. Upgrade your kernel to backported version and use precompiled NVIDIA binary kernel module: To do this first install new kernel with: apt-get install -t wheezy-backports linux-image-$(dpkg --print-architecture) Reboot your machine with new kernel and install nvidia-driver with: apt-get install -t wheezy-backports nvidia-driver nvidia-kernel-$(uname -r) 2. You can compile binary kernel module If you don't want to upgrade your kernel to backported version you need to compile nvidia-kernel driver for your current kernel.
