Running Jessie/Xfce, I occasionally switch from DvorakClassic to QWERTY to accommodate an associate, and I experienced a similar problem, but was unable to get back to DvorakClassic without logging out. Perhaps they use the same applet. Simply using the APPLICATIONS -> SETTINGS -> KEYBOARD menus was less of a hassle. Russ
