In that case, there is a third way: su -l <your_user> -c "ln -sf ~/MyFonts /usr/local/share/fonts" But the usual way to install fonts system wide beyond the package manager is as follows: put your fonts into /usr/local/share/fonts instead of ~/MyFonts.
