This procedure works fine on an HP EliteBook 8570w, and probably would work the same on a Compaq. Several of the comments there give informative explanatory material and describe the process pretty clearly. Probably it's a good idea to upgrade the BIOS anyhow, as later revisions have security fixes with some frequency. > > Never did it on HP, so not sure how well it would go.
