In jessie alsa-base has precisely two files: /usr/share/doc/alsa-base/changelog.gz /usr/share/doc/alsa-base/copyright It is doubtful either of these is invovloved in the production of sound. There is nothing of use left in alsa-base, so for jessie, it'll just become a dummy package that helps cleaning up its old conffiles. It will be dropped after the jessie release. You obviously have some issue with sound but it is impossible to discover what it is. -- Brian.
