Your email user agent took your HTML and converted to ASCII in a highly unfortunate way. I believe only one of the forward slashes shown here is supposed to be present; all the others are artifacts of your MUA's italic markup conversion. I strongly suggest disabling HTML email, especially when writing to Debian or other technical mailing lists.
