It's fairly unlikely that any modern adapter will work with no non-free firmware: there's too many binary blobs and pieces for regulatory compliance. It is also sometimes true that the only source of firmware is by building something from Github - that is pore problematic. Good luck in the search. All the very best, Andy Cater
