Apparently some variants may cause a slow boot process as the chip is incorrectly detected as having 32 SATA ports instead of 6. Other than that, no obvious problems. However, an unflashed LSI 92xx or 93xx in -8i variants is typically under $50 US; if you're buying a new card, especially for a fileserver, get that instead, and flash it in IT mode (no RAID support). -dsr-
