Postgres

Hi,
I�ve got following Problem:
        initdb: cannot be run as root
        Please log in (using, e.g., "su") as the (unprivileged) user that will
        own the server process.
 I�m using an unstable Debian System. The error appears with postgres- 
/stable/unstable and testing Versions.
 The user postgres exits. After "su postgres" initdb return the same error 
but pg_id returns the correct postgres id.
 What�s  wrong?
