What are the next > steps to reestablish the Debian12-state? On 2025-08-28 21:58 -0400 I suggested in this thread to report a bug. https://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting explains how. https://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2025/08/msg00909.html is the URL of the archive of your original message in this thread. I suggest to include it in your report. Unfortunately, besides getting a newer laptop, I'm out of other ideas likely to be of much use getting Trixie to work in the near future, if ever. :( You should try booting live media of recent vintage of another distro or more, something with kernel 6.12 or newer. Current is 6.16. Whatever other distro you try, ensure xorg version is at least version X.Org v: 1.21.1.15. The bug tracking team likely would make that request if you don't report you already tried. If this is trouble is due to an unfixed bug, don't count on it getting fixed. Unfixed bugs related to old NVidia GPUs seem to be getting more common than they used to be. e.g. https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/nouveau/-/issues/214 27 months ago reported https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/nouveau/-/issues/385 11 months ago reported https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-nouveau/-/issues/454 2018 -- Evolution as taught in public schools is, like religion, based on faith, not based on science.
