Are you sure?
No, as it's a response from the server. But maybe a local browser cache
served it up to me during a brief network snafu.
My thought, too. But then, when you said "browser" I thought "OK, OK, all
bets are up" :)

I wouldn't wonder if browsers started phantasising 404s on a timeout or
connection refused. Perhaps in the name of a consistent user interface
or something.
