Wow, false alarm -- I am thoroughly embarrassed apparently I was typing addresses in the 192.168.1.x network instead of the 192.168.12.x network.
It's a bitch getting young (I stopped getting old when I reached 65, now I'm working on getting younger) -- maybe that's why I had such a bad brain fart. Sorry for the noise!
