Someone ultimately owns the trademarks and copyrights of Debian.
Technically the name, logos, slogans and branding could be sold. The
software is all Free Software. Debian has no closed source proprietary
applications. There is no way someone could take over Canonical by
purchasing Debian's branding. Ubuntu is a trademark of Canonical not Debian.
