Hi Arno,

thanks for your reply. Although my question was answered meanwhile, I would
like to tell, why I asked.

In Germany on school-servers is running IServ (I know about IServ and its
quality, please do not blame me!), and as all schools do not use backup or
hotspare servers, I thought of, how would I solve the problem, if one of these
servers are burning down.

So my solution would be, having drive images, restore them onto a new server
and of we go.

However, taking drive omages from the running servers is not possible, as it
is not allowed to shut them down, so the idea cam in my mind, to create images
from a running system.

But as I do not know, if this is possible at all (due to possible changes
while the drives are mounted), and could not find a way searching the web, I
allowed me, to ask here some other experts. Maybe they might know, if this
issue can be solved or not.

But it appears, it is not, and so my question was fullly answered.

Hope, I made not too much noise!

Best

Hans
