You can plug in multiple mice and keyboards, they all work simultaneously. I recall me and my brother teasing each other with my spare wireless mouse...
Plug in a new USB printer or webcam, it almost immediately works, unless you don't have the proper drivers.
Seems like USB is assumed non-hostile, which may be good or bad depending on the use case.
