UPS workaround?

My UPR (APC C1000) is messed up.  It'll be acting normally at 100% 
charge, the display blinks, and suddenly it has no batteries.  My theory 
is that lightning hit it, and it gave its life to save the computer. 
Until I replace it, is there something I can do occasionally that makes 
it rescan its batteries, but doesn't interrupt power delivery to the 
load (i.e., this computer)?
