After poking through the pterm man page, I created a ~/.XResources with the following contents:
pterm.Font: -adobe-courier-bold-r-normal-*-*-120-*-*-m-*-iso8859-1 pterm.TermHeight: 70 pterm.TermWidth: 80 ... The font setting is working. The geometry settings seem to be ignored.
