Can you be more specific about what you mean by "disable ide-cd options line".
I have a similar issue on a debian system and I don't quite follow what you have done. Where is this ide-cd options line, for me ide-cd is a module that gets loaded.
its originally a libranet 2.8.1 box, dist-upgraded with testing/unstable it had 2.4.24 running, its now 2.6.2-686-smp-1 i think
the file i ended up modifying was
/etc/modutils/idecd_opts
i suspect this maybe have been generated by xadminmenu (might even have been a post-install script come to think on it), when i was
asked if i wanted ide-scsi emulation enabled on these dvd/cd writer drives.
i initially had network and sound problems, having to manually modprobe e100 and es1371, restarting networking etc.
so i also added two files sound and network into /etc/modprobe.d dir,
which is processed by the updated update-modules script, in turn
producing /lib/modules/modules.conf
i suspect now that i prob don't actually need these, but it's now not broken and i ain't fixing it :-)
xcdroast warns me of slow response and poss probs as a result of setting the writer as an ide device. seems to work, i'll try the bluewall 1.1 in a minute, that seems to work, gets to the login prompt.
still to do is nvidia drivers, that should really be fun....
if you want a copy of relevant /etc bits, stripped of everything except modu*, let me know and i'll send you a tgz. i'll put the copied files under a diff top-dir before tgz'ing it.
