Problem with using DRI cvs

Since I've started using the XFree 4.3.0 debian packages, I've had a 
problem:

Programs run with libx11-6 4.3.0 from sid won't connect to regular 4.3.0 
or DRI trunk servers (or I think vice-versa)

I get "protocol not supported by server" with an xauth error in the 
xfree log.
