Well, I just got finished re-installing R6 (to untangle a kernel mod) and as an interumn solution I built a boot disk (I usually boot from DOS with loadlin). When I booted off of this disk (and copied /vmlinuz to the DOS partition) I was somewhat surprised to find that shutdown -r now worked completely. (In the past it would chug through its shutdown proceedure till it got to the Rebooting... message, and would then just hang) However, after installing the new kernel in DOS and rebooting Linux the shutdown -r now behaved as before. I find this quite strange, as I assume that the kernel on the boot disk is the same one as /vmlinuz. Anyone have any idea what is going on?
