I can't tell what is going on only that I could replicate the challenge..  I
suspect strongly
that it's the dual boot thing that is causing some constrenation between the
operating
systems.  Also, I had to reinstall and found the same results - although my
solution was
a little more drastic as I no longer have a dos partition and the whole
system is a LINUX
system only.....
