You should not make popclient setuid root.  If you do I can quite
possibly get root on your system from a shell account: I imagine it
doesn't do any of the checking a setuid program needs to do, wrt the
-o option for example.  The scheme involving a shell script that sets
TERM is better, until Emacs is fixed.

popclient should also be changed not to try to do `mesg' anything or
whatever it's doing unless it's running on a tty.
