Add yourself to the "floppy" group in /etc/group. Note that there are
several special groups such as "lp", "dialout", "cdrom" for control of
access to devices on a per-user basis.

Please look at the file /etc/mtools.ref, and edit it as necessary for your
system. I think its default configuration may be wrong.
