I've then done this, and kept the old branches in old-master and old-upstream. Note that pulling will then probably fail, and another clone from alioth should be done. The package should now be more or less OK, using git-buildpackage. I've had to use 'pear package' to build the sources from the upstream git versions, as there's a build.xml that applies. All that is probably left to do is setting the collaborative maintenance bits, and proof-reading every bits. Any comments much welcome.
