I think things have improved a little---Super with any alphabetic key seems to work with 1-6, except c, oddly. That is, with xev I can hold down the Super-L key and then I get events for pressing z, x, v, b, etc., but pressing c does nothing. Space and the cursor keys still don't work (I use Super and Space for toggling iconified status, and Super with the cursor keys for a variety of operations).
