Richard's case may be more similar to yours than mine. I don't use the realtime scanner on my server or workstation, but I do use the automated update. I installed it on my workstation so that I could test scripts and so forth, and also keep any eye on the update intervals. As of something like 3.16c, I don't have the "must tell the GUI that it's okay for it to fail to fetch an update once in a while problem" on the three machines I used to have that problem on (two W2K3 and one WXP). I did change the environment though, because to prevent issues on one of the servers, I instituted a scripted fetch of the updates for multiple times per day. The workstation continues to only use the F-Prot tool and GUI.
