My $0.02 We use HOLD and keep messages for 40 days or so. If we have a potential false positive, we search the messages for keywords to see if we can find it. If found, we go through our logs to find the filter that caught it and adjust the filter. The process is failrly automated, and having the message around allows us to drop it into the spool for delivery if that's required.
