Hi Scott: I believe there is still a small bug in the handling of classless delegations.
Notice this lookup: > set type=ptr > 162.89.86.65.in-addr.arpa. Server: ns1.dsl.net Non-authoritative answer: 162.89.86.65.in-addr.arpa canonical name = 162.160-27.89.86.65.in-addr.arpa 162.160-27.89.86.65.in-addr.arpa name = maywood-is-0003.webhost.hm-software.com 160-27.89.86.65.in-addr.arpa nameserver = ns1.webhost.hm-software.com 160-27.89.86.65.in-addr.arpa nameserver = ns2.webhost.hm-software.com ns1.webhost.hm-software.com internet address = 63.107.174.24 ns2.webhost.hm-software.com internet address = 65.86.89.162 It is VERY clear that this is a NON-authoritative answer and that there IS a delegation to ns1.webhost.hm-software.com. Now compare this with: http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/ptr.ch?ip=65.86.89.162 Searching for 162.89.86.65.in-addr.arpa PTR at c.root-servers.net: Got referral to BUCHU.ARIN.NET. (zone: 65.in-addr.arpa.) Searching for 162.89.86.65.in-addr.arpa PTR at BUCHU.ARIN.NET.: Got referral to NS1.DSL.NET. (zone: 86.65.in-addr.arpa.) Searching for 162.89.86.65.in-addr.arpa PTR at NS1.DSL.NET.: Got CNAME referral to NS1.DSL.NET. (zone 162.160-27.89.86.65.in-addr.arpa.) Searching for 162.160-27.89.86.65.in-addr.arpa. PTR at NS1.DSL.NET.: Reports maywood-is-0003.webhost.hm-software.com. As you can see - "Searching for 162.160-27.89.86.65.in-addr.arpa. PTR at NS1.DSL.NET" it does NOT follow the delegation to the proper authoritative name server to ns1.webhost.hm-software.com, instead it is using the NON-authoritative information provided by ns1.dls.net.
