If you go to http://www.com.com, you'll see why.I have seen this before and been confused by it as well, although not really enough to do any kind of research on it. If you go to C-Net's download.com, you will be redirected to download.com.com. Why would they implement this type of double extension?
CNET has bought the "com.com" domain, and is just using it like any other domain.
The double extensions are just standard domain names. In this case, "www.com.com", the host name is "www" on the domain "com.com" (just like with "www.declude.com", the host name is "www" on the domain "declude.com").
