Is there a limit to the number of filters or other tests, whether in terms
of actual, theoretical or performance wise?
Right now, it is hard-coded to 256; we plan to make it unlimited soon.

Is there any difference with having one compared to say 5?

grayfilter1 Free e-mail domains
grayfilter2 Adult words
grayfilter3 Spam words
grayfilter4 Specific phrases (like Omaha Steaks)
grayfilter5 Specific subject lines
There would be a minor performance hit, but it likely wouldn't be noticeable. In the case here, the 5 tests would likely be preferable, as the benefits to having the tests split up like that would likely outweigh any performance hit.
