We've got a customer using some sort of challenge response software that's causing massive amounts of stored mail on his hard drive.

C/R software is a nasty thing. Fortunately, someone claims to have a patent on it, and is going after companies using it.


FWIW, one of the main companies using C/R (SpamArrest) is a known spammer. They harvest E-mail addresses of people sending mail to their customers, and spam them (and reportedly sell those lists to other spammers).

So, just a general question, does it appear to anyone else that the challenge/response software at the consumer level, contributes to the level of spam anyone is receiving?

In most cases, I would find it hard to believe that it would actually increase the amount of spam they receive.


What I fail to understand, though, is how they could be getting so much spam that it fills up their hard drive. That would have to be a *LOT* of spam.
