But that's the problem - this log entry did NOT appear in the spf.none - it
appeared in the spf.LOG - the one where it should only log the
success/failures.

That's correct.  Nothing was changed to fix that, as we were not able to 
reproduce the issue here.

However, with the latest interim release, the spf.none file should have an 
extra piece of information after "UNKNOWN", such as:

63.107.174.146   [EMAIL PROTECTED] [andyshome]: UNKNOWN: DNS 
connection failure
