I think I am going to have to use multiple files to pull this one off if the bug is that far reaching. Would you please be a little more specific about when the bug will appear, i.e. all NOTENDSWITH filters, possibly other filters, or only certain conditions with NOTENDSWITH filters (when combined with END for instance or maybe only with REVDNS). I have been using some of these for months and haven't noticed any issues, for instance, the following filter is used to look for DUL hits from DirecPC.
REVDNS END NOTENDSWITH .direcpc.com REVDNS 0 STARTSWITH dpc
Understandably FP's on any match shorter than the first string would be uncommon, but I have over a dozen of these for different domains.
