FYI,

I have a backup gateway installed that has an instance of both Declude and IMail which are not licensed and are also not running. This server uses MS SMTP for relaying, but in the event my primary server goes down for an extended period of time, I plan on making the backup server live so that it can scan E-mail and deliver it to my gatewayed domains while I work on bringing the primary server back up. I hope to never have to use this, but it is a necessary part of my disaster recovery plan. I also have IMail and Declude installed on a private testing server that is definitely not in production or accessible from the Internet, and never will be. Considering that Declude phones home, I just wanted to make sure that you are aware that I am not stealing software.

IMO, phoning home should always be optional and prompted. While Declude doesn't do anything insidious as far as I can tell in this case, I was previously upset about how the data from forging virus detection was collected and reused without asking for permission. There needs to be a limit to what is shared from our systems for obvious reasons, but there presently doesn't seem to be any clear boundaries. Burying disclaimers about what might be collected and reused deep in manuals is much the same as spammers harvesting from contests with their small print and open-ended disclaimers. It would be good to know exactly what is collected from our systems and how exactly it is used, and not make the disclaimer open-ended.

Thanks,

Matt

Does Declude use Imail as a relaying MTA or it's own SMTP engine?

It uses IMail's IMail1.exe process (the same that is used for virus notifications and other E-mails that Declude sends out).
