If sending outbound directly from the hosted server, that is exposing that
server in that the recipient will be able to see the IP address.

Another added benefit of sending outbound through the scanning server, it
handles communications with the rest of world, off loading that from the
hosting server.

Another added benefit of sending outbound through the scanning server, you
can use AutoWhite for Declude which keeps track of who local users and
sending to and will add a negative weight to messages those remote users
send to the local users depending upon the volume of e-mail sent to them
from the local user.
