John, It sure sounds like that it was temporary. For situations like this you might want to look at using a product like QueueMon which is a windows based service that monitors the imail spool and declude proc directories and will notify you when they exceed thresholds you set. In addition, it can also run external scripts to correct issues. It has save my butt and alerted me to many issues prior to my users alerting me.. Nothing is worse than having a user tell you that there is a problem with your mail server.
