Hey Andrew, You didn't wrap the cores, you strung them.
Since the two scientists who invented core memory were Chinese born, I always thought that they were really trying to invent a high-speed abacus and developed the core memory when they strung too many wires through the cores. I still have a couple in my personal museum.
